About Matt Laughlin, MA: Boulder Counselor
It is an honor to sit with individuals and couples alike, and assist them in working through life's difficulties towards the realization of what they find most meaningful.
At its core, I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process in which client and therapist alike work together to achieve a successful therapy.
The inspiration to serve in this way initially led me to study in a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program at Bastyr University, of Seattle.
Yet...
Despite over two fulfilling years of medical studies, I was drawn to focus my professional work more closely on the inner dimensions of healing.
I decided to change course and pursue a Masters in Contemplative Psychotherapy at Naropa University of Boulder, Colorado - a three year clinical training integrating mindfulness-based therapies
and western/psychoanalytic approaches to the practice of counseling.
Following a one year internship at Access Counseling of Boulder, CO,
a nonprofit counseling center, I continued seeing a full case-load of clients for a second year as a volunteer therapist.
I am presently in my fourth year of private counseling practice and also continue to work as editor-in-chief of
Unified Health: A Clinician's Forum, a quarterly publication in holistic medicine reaching thousands of
clinicians across the country.
As editor-in-chief of Unified Health I have had the privilege to study the work of and interview numerous leaders in the fields of psychology and spiritual growth,
including....
Dr. Wayne Dyer, Thomas Moore, Mark Epstein, MD, Sharon Salzberg, Joan Borysenko, PhD, Michael Beckwith, and David R. Hawkins, MD, PhD, among others. Read these and other
interviews, here
At the heart of my psychotherapy practice for couples and individuals is a commitment to excellence and integrity on behalf of all the clients I serve.
To this end...
I continually attend seminars, explore the works of great minds in psychotherapy and related fields, and receive regular case supervision
and consultation from exceptional colleagues.
Be sure to visit my new site, mattlaughlin.com, which is devoted entirely to relationship advice inspired by my couples therapy and individual therapy practice.
Thanks to almost two years of service work in a children's home for abandoned youth in South America, I am highly proficient in Spanish and offer individual
and couples counseling for Spanish speaking adults.
After moving to the Front Range of beautiful Colorado several years ago, my wife and I are delighted to call this home.
I hope you find this site useful and enjoy it as much as I love working on it. Much of the content is inspired by what couples and individuals find most helpful in their therapeutic process.
